Dry Needling & Cupping Therapy in Chicago

Target the Source. Release the Pain.

Dry needling is a technique used by physical therapists, chiropractors, and other healthcare practitioners to treat musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. The technique involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body โ€” known as trigger points โ€” to stimulate the release of tight muscles or alleviate pain. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and physiological principles.

๐Ÿ’ก Both Dr. Patrick and Dr. PK are certified in dry needling and may use a variety of dry needling techniques and traditional acupuncture points. $50 self-pay only.

The needles are inserted into the muscle tissue at the trigger points, which are areas of muscle spasm or tightness that can cause pain and limit range of motion. The insertion of the needle stimulates the muscle fibers and triggers a response that can help to release the tightness and alleviate pain. Dry needling is often used to treat conditions such as chronic back pain, neck pain, headaches, and sports injuries.

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. We offer cupping as part of your normal visit or as a separate service.

All doctors at our location provide cupping to patients. At Elite Performance Chiropractic, we have new age cups with a suction device for easy application and removal from the skin. The number of cups depends on the condition and the area โ€” we can do as little as one cup and use it actively or use up to 6 cups for a larger area.

Cupping is effective for pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines and headaches, and much more. Most likely, if the cups are not moved during therapy, there will be a small circular bruise left where the cups were. This discoloration is normal for this type of therapy and is caused from broken blood vessels, like a bruise โ€” it typically fades within a week.
